Die Bibel - Herderübersetzung

In der neuen Ausgabe der Herder-Bibel verbinden sich der viel gefragte klassische Bibeltext mit einer frischen Gestaltung zu einem harmonischen Ganzen - und das zu einem günstigen Preis. Die qualitativ hochwertige gebundene Ausgabe verfügt zudem über ein Leseband.

It has a good solid blue hardcover with one dark yellow ribbon marker and is
bound well although it appears not to be smythe sewn. The pages are not too
thin and are a light cream color and the print is easy to read and the Scripture
is laid out in paragraphs.

The Bible size is: 5 1/2 * 8 1/4 * 1 1/2 inches.

Inside the front cover there is an Old Testament B&W map, the inside back has
a New Testament one. The introductions, footnotes and cross-references are
contained in the appendix which is the negative for my review.

The print date is 2010, the Bible has an Imprimatur and was printed in Germany.

This "Herder-Bibel" is the Bible that preceded the "Einheitsübersetzung"
(Unity Translation) which Catholics and Protestants worked together on and which
the Catholic Church in Germany now uses liturgically, it is said that it was too
loosly translated compared to the Herder-Bibel which is said tries to stay as close
as possible to the original texts. This Herder-Bibel is a 2005 "cautious revision"
of the original Herder-Bibel, which has the Imprmatur date of 1965 and which
this Bible still uses, according to the Review at German Amazon. The full German
title of this Bible is:

"Die Bibel: Die Heilige Schrift des Alten und Neuen Bundes. Vollständige deutsche
Ausgabe [Gebundene Ausgabe]"

I find the text a good no-nonsense read of the German language - shouldn't a
Bible be no-nonsense - and have found it to be, thus far, a "german echo" of my
favorite English Bible the Douay Rheims, though not everywhere.
